Legends of Hyrule

Overview

Legends of Hyrule is a top-down custom Magic: The Gathering set based on the world of The Legend of Zelda video game series. The set's mechanics aim to capture the feeling of playing a Zelda game, from exploring Dungeons to solving puzzles, collecting items, and fighting bosses, all while providing a balanced, fun, and powerful limited draft experience. The set's aesthetics attempt to represent the memorable characters and whimsical fantasy world of The Legend of Zelda.

Mechanics

Venture into Dungeons

Dungeons are a new subtype of land, representing the various dangerous and mysterious locales Link must explore in The Legend of Zelda. Most Dungeons have a new activated ability called Venture, which allows a creature to use its power to brave the dangers of a Dungeon for some reward. Blue-black is the color combination that cares most about whether or not you control a Dungeon, although Dungeons are found in all colors at all rarities. Playing green and blue cards will reward you for and help you with venturing into Dungeons. Many Dungeons at higher rarities have powerful and repeatable effects, but be warned... Your creatures may not come out unscathed.

Solve Puzzles

Puzzles are a new subtype of enchantment. Although they have no inherent rules meaning, Puzzles will often involve counting permanents on the battlefield, cards in other zones, comparing numbers, and other various unusual gameplay styles. Solution is a keyword found on any nonland card type that functions from the graveyard. Whenever you cast a Puzzle spell or sacrifice a Puzzle on the battlefield, you can exile a card with Solution (one per trigger) to draw a card. Cue familiar musical accompaniment.

Equipment and Artifacts

In order to represent the iconic items and weapons found in The Legend of Zelda series, Legends of Hyrule has a focus on artifacts and the Equipment subtype in particular. Blue and white are the colors that most care about Equipment in the set, with many creatures and even noncreature spells becoming more powerful the more Equipment you control. In addition, there are colored artifacts and artifact creatures to better represent the Zelda series's golems, automatons, traps, and mechanisms. The black-white color combination will reward you for playing more artifact creatures.

Denizens of Hyrule

Legends of Hyrule introduces several new creature types in order to accurately represent the characters in the Zelda universe. (Sorry, no elves here!) Such types include Hylian (found mostly in green, white, and blue), Goron (red and white), Sheikah (white and blue), and Gerudo (all colors besides white). The green-white and white-blue color combinations represent the solidarity of the Kingdom of Hyrule, so you'll be rewarded for playing Hylian creatures in those colors.
