Core EM is a custom core set designed to back up a custom standard format I'm working on, but ideally can be applicable to any custom standard format anybody else is working on.

Details

  • Is a large set and a core set
  • Has 249 cards (101 commons, 80 uncommons, 53 rares, 15 mythic rares)
  • Features the following mechanics:

    o Constellation—Whenever an enchantment enters the battlefield under your control, [effect].

    o Evolve (Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, if that creature has greater power or toughness than this creature, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature.)

    o Landfall—Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, [effect].

Archetype Showcase

As with most sets nowadays, Core EM uses the ten two-color guild pairings as the basis for its Archetypes.

Colors Archetype Description
Control Stop your opponent from playing cards and winning the game long enough to drop a crushing threat that they can't deal with. Signpost Uncommon: Restore the Peace
Enchantments Use constellation effects to generate more value than your opponent and outclass their cards. Signpost Uncommon: Underworld Coinsmith
Weenies Use small, low-cost creatures and tokens to go wide and take your opponent down with your large numbers. Signpost Uncommon: Honored Crop-Captain
Life Gain Use card effects that gain life to trigger abilities that care about gaining life. Signpost Uncommon: Armadillo Cloak
Mill Play a slower game and try to outlast your opponents so they draw out their entire deck as you use effects to put cards from their deck into the graveyard. Signpost Uncommon: Duskmantle Guildmage
Spellslinger An archetype revolving around instant and sorcery cards, prowess, and ways to retrieve those cards and use them again. Signpost Uncommon: Bloodwater Entity
+1/+1 Counters Power up your weaker creatures with +1/+1 counters and use evasion and high power to make big swings. Signpost uncommon: Bred for the Hunt
Aggro Focus on outracing the opponent with little regard to your own wellbeing, killing them before they can defeat you. Signpost Uncommon: Blazing Specter
Sacrifice Turn your creatures into resources for other cards and use effects that care about creatures dying to whittle down your opponent. Signpost Uncommon: Golgari Germination
Landfall Turn your land drops into extra value for your cards and use specific cards to make multiple landfall effects happen each turn. Signpost Uncommon: Grove Rumbler
