"Reach Greater Heights."

The World: Cloudscape is a plane that consists of an immeasurable number of floating islands, with nothing but a vast sea at what we would normally consider "ground" level. These islands vary in all types of sizes, shapes, and climates. The plane has been like this as long as anyone can remember, and thus, life has adapted. Life has evolved according to the conditions of the world, and most creatures are either quite well-adapted to their own home island or are capable of flight, and thus, traveling from island to island. Floating cities have been built utilizing the unique properties of the clouds, and adventurers, pirates, merchants, and ordinary citizens alike sail the sky in floating airships.

A main focus of the set is the planeswalker Sora, who's come to this plane as part of her search to hear and tell unheard stories. What Sora finds is most fascinating indeed- an ancient tale of how Cloudscape came to be, as well as where it is headed. Her travels on the plane will take her higher and higher into the sky, and deeper and deeper into an epic with a thrilling conclusion, as well as an unexpected friendship born from the unlikeliest of places.

Welcome to Cloudscape!

Mechanics:

  • Lands with the land type Cloud all have "T: Add C." Some cards in Cloudscape specifically care about colorless mana, have abilities that cost colorless mana, or have abilities that care about Clouds. These cards appear in all colors. One more fun tidbit- Clouds have a special slot in booster packs that replaces the basic land slot, meaning every single pack is guaranteed to have a Cloud!

  • Backdraft is a mechanic that goes on instants and sorceries, allowing you to cast them from your graveyard by paying their mana cost and tapping an untapped creature you control with flying. The backdraft spell is then exiled. Backdraft appears in Grixis colors, and flavorfully represents the dastardly aven priests of the Felhall, led by the dragon queen Immu.

  • Soar is an action keyword. When a creature soars, it gets a flying counter. If it already has a flying counter, it gets a +1/+1 counter instead. Soar appears in blue and white, and flavorfully represents the aven monastery called the Aerie.

  • Overcast is a mechanic that cares about you casting spells using colorless mana. Most have a specific extra effect if you cast them using colorless mana, but some rarer cards can have their overcast effects trigger every time you cast another spell using colorless mana. Overcast appears in all colors, but is primarily seen in white, black, and green.

  • Amity is an ability word that cares about you attacking with exactly two creatures. It appears in red and green, and thematically represents the famous myth of two lovebirds, who overcame cultural boundaries and build a castle for themselves in the clouds. Their story is told through the flavor texts of many of the cards in the set.

  • Elementals are a minor tribal theme in Temur colors. The planeswalker Suarim has made Cloudscape his home, and commands the Elementals of the plane to defend Venstead, the world tree at the center of Cloudscape, from would-be treasure hunters.
