Ringsir

A Land Dishonored

The empires of old are fallen. The gods do not answer mortal pleas. No realm is beyond death and desecration. Shadows have fallen upon the north.

The world of Ringsir is solemn land of war, monsters, and the weakness of the human spirit. But it is also a world of glory, piety, and the power of human determination. Ringsir is home to valiant heroes and craven fiends in equal measure. It is a setting based roughly on Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Germanic mythology and folklore, with more focus on its darker, unpleasant side. Dwindling kingdoms struggle to hold onto the shards of a fallen empire, beset by barbarian hordes, wicked spirits and demonic horrors from beyond the earth.

The set focuses around the story of Deann of Othras, a common man who was thrust into the mantle of kingship and heroism after slaying a bestial Dragon. With the counsel of the sage Valdun, and the aid of his ostensible allies, he becomes the unwilling spearhead of a war against a seemingly unbeatable foe: the tyrant Haakon the Golden.

A Hero Unbowed

Put no faith in the gods, for they are selfish. Put no faith in your friends, for they are fickle. Put faith in yourself, for you are the only man you can trust. Put faith in the Wyrd, for fate plays no favorites and holds no grudges.

Mechanically, the set focuses around a Monocolor-theme, with emphasis on staying within a single color. It also includes a subtheme making use of the top-card of the library, as well as a focus on combat and strategic use of attacking and blocking. The mechanics are meant to evoke the flavor of the set, without being bound by it.
