My first ever 24 hour set design challenge project. The first draft of this set was designed in a day (well, 24 hours and 30 minutes)!
Lore
Welcome to Amonkhet, but not the one you became familiar with from 2017. This is Amonkhet at its highest, its most alive, its most glorious. This is the Amonkhet before the Hours, before the eternals, before the God-Pharaoh himself. This is Amonkhet as it was before Nicol Bolas took over.
Nicol Bolas might have warped the plane significantly, but some things were left unchanged. Namely, most of the major civilizations have fallen, and the deserts are still plagued by Sandwurms, Horrors, and the Curse of Wandering. Birth of Naktamun follows the remaining survivors of these past civilizations, banding together to construct a new city, a safehaven for the plane's residents: Naktamun. The world is alive, people are thriving, and everyone is coming together to forge a new, better future for the world. Follow the founding decades of this great city, the establishment of the true, original trials, and the purposes of the Gods, all eight of them, as they originally were.

Archetype Showcase
As with most sets nowadays, Birth of Naktamun uses the ten two-color guild pairings as the basis for its Archetypes.
Colors | Archetype | Description |
---|---|---|
Embalm Midrange | Play early game creatures that you can bring back later in the game for additional value. Signpost Uncommon: Efficient Embalmer | |
Creature Tokens | Combine Embalm with other token production to amass a board of creatures that you can buff and go wide with to win. Signpost Uncommon: Restless Servant | |
Labor Aggro | Turn creatures sideways and get rewarded for doing so. Maximize the number of labor effects you're using each turn by attacking. Signpost Uncommon: Naktamun Taskmaster | |
Tap Matters | Use external tap effects to trigger Labor without endangering your creatures by attacking, then untap them so you can fire Labor off multiple times in a turn. Signpost Uncommon: Vizier of Oases | |
Thrive Control | Use your creatures to cast big, ahead-of-curve thrive spells that devastate the opponent. Signpost Uncommon: Churn the Undercurrents | |
Cycling | Take full advantage of cycling with a plethora of bonus effects for cycling cards from your hand. Signpost Uncommon: Spellfire Slinger | |
Hand Size Matters | Using cycling effects to rip through your deck while maintaining a big hand size. Signpost uncommon: Slithering Combatant | |
Total Devastation | Abuse removal to ruin the opponent's board and keep them from ever posing a threat while you snowball into a victory. Signpost Uncommon: Harsh Erosion | |
+1/+1 Counters | The Original Amonkhet block might have been -1/-1 counter focused, but in Birth of Naktamun, the plane is building up rather than crumbling down. Build up massive creatures with +1/+1 counters and overrun the opponent. Signpost Uncommon: Winding Constrictor | |
Stompy | Put pressure on the opponent in the early game and keep it up every turn with an ever-growing pile of aggressive creatures. Signpost Uncommon: Rampaging Plowbeast |
